About the SpR Club

UK/Ireland Nephrology SpR Club Guidelines

  1. Function:
    1. To provide a meeting, twice a year, which is an educational and social experience, for UK/Ireland Nephrology SpRs
    2. To present the views of SpRs to the Renal Association and other bodies
  2. Content:
    1. Each meeting will be expected to cover aspects of clinical nephrology
    2. Non-renal skills useful to SpR/consultants may also be taught
  3. Meetings:
    1. The Club meets in the Autumn and Spring, with the meeting lasting from Saturday to Sunday lunchtime, with delegates being able to stay on Saturday night
    2. 4 sessions will be provided
  4. Delegates:
    1. All UK/Ireland adult and paediatric SpRs will be invited. Interested staff grades, clinical assistants and SHOs can attend by arrangement with their local committee representative
    2. SpRs may attend one meeting after successful appointment to a consultant post even if the meeting falls after the date on which they take up post
    3. Will be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit, and will pay their own travelling costs
    4. No partners will attend the meeting, unless by prior arrangement with the committee
  5. Speakers/committee members:
    1. Second-class travelling costs will be paid. No honoraria will be paid.
    2. Approximately half will be "experts", half will be SpRs, usually towards the end of their research
    3. One "international" speaker may be invited per meeting
    4. Each sponsoring company may invite one speaker per meeting, who may be the international speaker
    5. Will be invited to attend a dinner on the Friday night, and stay on Friday night
    6. No partners will attend the meeting, unless by arrangement with the committee
  6. Committee:
    1. Will be made up of a Chairperson, SpR representatives from London/South, Wales/South-West, Midlands, Ireland, North-West, North-East, Scotland, Paediatrics, Renal Association Rep, SAC/JCHMT Rep and representatives (non-voting) from sponsoring companies
    2. Meets 4 times per year, on the Saturday morning of the meetings and roughly half-way between meetings
    3. Each meeting has a local organiser, appointed by the committee
